Growing Aloe Vera in an apartment or in a house

As you are already know, Aloe Vera is a herb of extremely great benefit for our body, health and care.

It’s an ancient plant that originates in Africa, Egypt in particular, and you can grow it in your home. If you haven’t ventured into it so far, in this article we will show you what it takes to grow Aloe Vera.

When you see how it’s easy to maintain this plant, you won’t be able to resist getting it and you will have everything you need for your skin’s health, as well as your entire body, on a daily basis.

If grown outdoors or in the garden, you must know that it needs the Mediterranean climate. However, more frequent cultivation of Aloe vera is in pots.

Growing Aloe vera in pots

Aloe Vera can be grown in cruse or pots. As the growth of the plant depends on the amount of light it receives, it’s important that it’s on the sunny side, more specifically the south or east.

It’s important to emphasize that the older plants prefer much more sun, while the younger ones enjoy the shade more.

During the winter it’s advisable for the plant to be indoors, but with the first rays of the sun you can take it out without hesitation.

However, avoid exposure to the strong sun so that the leaves don’t turn yellow.

Why are we bringing the plant indoors in the winter? This is due to the fact that its leaves contain 95% of water, which would freeze due to exposure to low temperatures.

However, you must remember that it shouldn’t be brought into rooms with high temperatures, but it can be brought into cooler parts of the house, such as the corridor, to provide adequate conditions for wintering.

It’s important to know that during the winter the plant shouldn’t be placed in an area where the temperature is below 10 ° C.

Watering the plant

During warm weather, the plant should be watered once a week.

As it doesn’t tolerate moisture, this frequency of watering is sufficient. And since, as we said, the plant is dormant in winter, it’s enough to water it once a month during this period.

When watering, it’s important to pay attention to the amount of water we supply to the plant. If we overdo it with watering the root will rot and the leaves will become wrinkled and moist.

To avoid this, the plant should be planted in a pot that has holes in its bottom to allow the excess water to flow into the saucer undisturbed.

Planting and maintaining Aloe Vera

Keep in mind that it has a shallow root, Aloe vera should be planted in a wider shallower container.

In order to provide the plant with its (somewhat) natural environment, it’s important to lay a layer of stones on the bottom of the pot and cover it with a layer of sand to which a layer of soil is applied.

Keep in mind that you need to put compost in at least one-fourth of the pot so that the plant can grow and grow under the right conditions.

Aloe vera blooms during June. In order to stimulate flowering and provide lush flowers, it’s important to secure the plant with phosphorus-rich fertilizers in early spring.

It’s a period of its growth, and the best way to get all you need is to mix soil with gravel and 30% compost.

Growing Aloe Vera

Aloe vera breeding

Today, the most common, but also the simplest way of propagating this plant is by planting saplings – pellets. There are multiple ways of planting. The first is to carefully separate the sapling from the bottom, taking care not to damage the root of the plant. Another way is to separate the bud you plant into a separate pot.

The plant is also propagated by leaf noodles, which have to be separated by (garden) scissors with part of the stem and then planted. Regardless of which of these seedlings you use, know that rooting the shoots will take about a month.

And finally… When are the shoots ready for transplanting? They are ready when they grow 2.5 to 5 cm on the main plant.
When you need to transplant it? For plants that are planted in the garden, the best option is that you do it in May or June, specifically in the months when Aloe vera is most intensively growing and developing.

If it’s cultivated in pots, the best option is that you do transplanting in the spring, or before flowering.
